Detailed description
Detailed description
The Actisense NGW-1 converter (reference A80721), sold by Raymarine, is designed to facilitate interoperability between marine equipment using NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 (SeaTalkng®) protocols. It enables bidirectional data transmission and reception, a key feature for integrating heterogeneous systems aboard.
System integration and compatibility
This device is particularly useful for connecting third-party NMEA 0183 equipment or older-generation Raymarine NMEA 0183 products to current Raymarine multifunction displays (MFDs) with an NMEA 2000 connection. It ensures seamless navigation data continuity without requiring a full system upgrade. Unlike unidirectional converters, the NGW-1 offers flexibility for complex configurations.
Application scenarios and configuration
The Actisense NGW-1 converter supports multiple integration scenarios. For example, it can link an NMEA 0183 AIS unit to an NMEA 2000 MFD, transmitting NMEA 0183 sentences such as VDO and VDM. It also allows an NMEA 2000 MFD to share GPS position data (RMC, DTM sentences) with an NMEA 0183 VHF radio. Conversely, an NMEA 0183 VHF radio can send Digital Selective Calling (DSC, DSE) data to an NMEA 2000 MFD. Finally, it enables autopilot data (APB) transmission from an NMEA 2000 MFD to an NMEA 0183 autopilot. The converter’s baud rate is set by default to 38400 but can be adjusted via the 'Actisense Toolkit' PC software to match the connected equipment’s specific requirements.
