Detailed description
The Raymarine replacement belt A18083 is an essential component for maintaining the functionality of the WheelPilot 4000 mk2 autopilots. Specifically designed for this model, it ensures the transmission of the necessary power to the wheel drive unit, thereby guaranteeing the accuracy of course-keeping.
Installation procedure
Replacing the A18083 belt involves several detailed steps. The user must first remove the wheel drive unit from the helm and disengage the clutch. After removing the front cover and the support plate (secured by two 3 mm Allen screws), the old belt can be removed from the belt pulley and the drive ring. The new belt is then installed around the drive ring and the belt pulley, ensuring that the clutch eccentrics are positioned to maximize clearance.
Clutch adjustment after replacement
A critical step after replacing the A18083 belt is the precise adjustment of the clutch. This adjustment ensures that the drive ring rotates freely when the clutch is disengaged, and that the belt does not slip when the clutch is engaged and the motor is running. The procedure includes loosening the clutch button screw (approximately 2 turns counterclockwise) with a 3 mm Allen key, adjusting the clutch button (4 notches in one direction or the other to tighten or loosen), and then retightening the screw. This step is essential for optimal performance.
