Detailed description
The Ray63 VHF from Raymarine (part number E70516) is a fixed marine VHF radio with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) Class D and an integrated GPS/GNSS receiver. Designed with a large LCD screen, its industrial design is specifically intended to aesthetically integrate with the Axiom multifunction displays. It is supplied as standard with bracket mounting kits and a flush-mount installation kit.
Position within the Raymarine range
Within the Raymarine catalog, the Ray63 distinguishes itself from the entry-level Ray53 model by its larger format and its ability to manage remote stations as well as an intercom function. Conversely, unlike the higher-end Ray73, the Ray63 does not include an AIS receiver or a hailer function. It is thus positioned as the ideal solution for navigators requiring a complete multi-station installation (main helm and flybridge), without needing AIS reception directly on the VHF, which is typically managed by a dedicated transponder on the onboard network.
Communication and positioning performance
The superheterodyne dual-conversion transceiver operates on US, Canadian, and international marine bands (156.000 MHz to 157.425 MHz, and up to 161.425 MHz for private channels). Transmission power is adjustable between 1 W (low) and 25 W (high). The internal 72-channel GNSS receiver is compatible with GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou networks, with SBAS correction support (WAAS, EGNOS). It provides a 10 Hz refresh rate and cold acquisition in under 2 minutes. For installations below deck or in metal cabins blocking the signal, a TNC connector allows the addition of an optional external GPS antenna.
Network connectivity and multi-station expansion
The Ray63 supports NMEA 2000 (via SeaTalkng connector) and NMEA 0183 protocols for direct integration with chartplotters and onboard instrumentation. It offers advanced multi-station expansion capability by accepting a wired RayMic handset or up to two wireless RayMic stations. This configuration enables full radio control from a second helm station and intercom activation between stations. An RCA audio output is also present on the rear panel for connecting an external passive speaker.
