Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for small sports boats and dayboats, the SIMRAD HALO20 radar (part number 000-14537-001) is a compact detection solution using pulse compression technology. This 20-inch radome (510 mm diameter x 223 mm height) provides a maximum range of 24 nautical miles and a minimum range of 50 meters, ensuring precise target detection with minimal footprint.
Pulse compression technology and performance
The HALO20 features pulse compression technology, combining short- and long-range detection with sharp target definition. Its peak transmitter output power is 25 W, operating in the X-band (9.4 to 9.5 GHz). Unlike traditional magnetron radars, it uses InstantOn™ technology, enabling immediate activation from low-power standby mode (3.9 W standard at 13.8 V DC). In operation, power consumption ranges from 17 to 29 W depending on range and mode. The antenna rotation speed is 24 RPM, with a nominal horizontal beam width of 3.9° (at -3 dB).
Operating modes and integration
The HALO20 radar offers dedicated modes for simplified use: Harbour (harbor), Offshore, and Weather, optimizing signal processing for different conditions. It also includes MARPA target tracking, capable of monitoring up to 10 collision threats. Its 100Base-T Ethernet interface allows easy integration with compatible navigation systems. With IPX6 waterproofing and an operating temperature range of -25 °C to +55 °C, it is built to withstand marine environments.
Positioning within the SIMRAD HALO range
The SIMRAD HALO20 is positioned as the entry-level option in the HALO series, delivering solid-state technology benefits in a compact format. Compared to the HALO20+ or HALO24, it offers a public safety distance of 0.0 meters, which is an advantage for installation on smaller vessels where space is limited. For example, the HALO24 has a maximum allowable antenna gain of 23.5 dBi compared to 22.5 dBi for the HALO20, indicating slightly superior performance for the more advanced models in the range.
