The Sleipner SE100 24V electric bow thruster (part number SE100/185T-24V) is designed for vessels 12 to 17 meters (35 to 55 feet) in length. This maneuvering system delivers 116 kg of thrust at 24V DC, with a power output of 6.3 kW (8.4 HP) at 21V DC, all housed in an 185 mm diameter tunnel. The unit weighs 31 kg.
Technology and performance
Equipped with Q-PROP™ technology, the SE100 thruster uses five-bladed skewed propellers to reduce noise levels by 20 to 40% in real-world use, and up to 75% in controlled tests, while maintaining or improving thrust performance. The twin-propeller propulsion system provides greater thrust compared to single-propeller configurations for the same tunnel diameter.
Integrated safety and durability
The Sleipner SE100 24V incorporates multiple features for safety and longevity. The Intelligent Power Control (IPC) system minimizes the delay between direction changes, reducing mechanical wear and monitoring solenoids. If a solenoid locks up, the thruster automatically shuts down. Overheat protection stops the system before internal temperatures cause damage. All underwater components feature galvanic isolation to eliminate stray currents and prevent corrosion. The gearcase is factory-sealed with ceramic and carbon seals for extended service life. A flexible coupling protects the propeller shaft by compensating for minor misalignments. Safety features include two-button activation to prevent accidental starts and automatic deactivation after a period of inactivity. The thruster is splash-resistant.
Installation and compatibility
The thruster’s design allows flexible installation, with the electric motor rotatable by 90 degrees on its mount and the thruster mountable at any angle within the tunnel. For optimal operation, a minimum battery capacity of 400 CCA DIN is recommended for 24V systems, with a recommended fuse of 325A (SMANL325). Certain models in the Sleipner range may include flameproof protection (ISO 8846 compliance) via a hermetically sealed composite housing around electrical components.
