Detailed description
Detailed description
The Sleipner S-Link 0.2 m backbone cable is a critical component of the S-Link control system, designed to establish reliable and robust communication between various Sleipner equipment aboard a vessel. This 0.2-meter cable (approximately 7.87 inches or 0.65 feet) acts as a common bus for power and communication within the network.
S-Link communication system
The S-Link system is based on CAN (Controller Area Network) technology and complies with the NMEA 2000 standard, ensuring intelligent and comprehensive communication between all connected units, similar to a computer network. It functions as a shared bus for data and power transfer, capable of directly powering low-consumption units. Backbone cables, identifiable by their blue connectors, are specifically designed for this purpose.
Design and installation
This cable features compact, round, and waterproof connectors, engineered for installation in marine environments exposed to moisture and splashes. The "Plug and Play" design simplifies correct installation with a unique keying system and color coding, minimizing wiring errors. The S-Link system is scalable, supporting various cable lengths and backbone extensions for flexible installations. Note that the system requires an "END Terminator" at each end of the backbone to function properly. To reduce interference, avoid proximity to radio transmitters, antennas, or high-voltage cables.
