Detailed description
The Sleipner S-Link termination (manufacturer reference 6 1327) is a critical component for the integrity and stability of the S-Link communication network, a system based on the CAN (Controller Area Network) protocol designed for Sleipner marine equipment. This network enables intelligent and reliable communication between different Sleipner products installed onboard your vessel.
Operation and central role
In an S-Link network, termination is required at each end of the main bus, or "backbone," to ensure stable data transmission and prevent signal reflections that could disrupt communication. The main cables ("backbone cables") serve as a common bus for power supply (12VDC or 24VDC) and communication, while the spur cables connect individual units. Spur cables can be left unterminated for future system scalability. The S-Link system integrates intelligent diagnostic functions and feedback to the control panel to facilitate troubleshooting.
Design and installation
The S-Link system is characterized by its compact and watertight connectors, designed for simplified and secure installation in a marine environment. Connectors for backbone and spur cables feature color coding and distinct keying (typically blue for backbone, green for spurs) to prevent wiring errors. System flexibility is ensured by a range of cable lengths and extensions. For optimal durability, it is recommended to install cables while avoiding tight bend radii, ensuring connector locking mechanisms are fully closed, and preventing permanent immersion or water and condensation infiltration. It is also advisable to keep S-Link cables away from radio transmitters, antennas, or high-voltage cables to reduce the risk of electromagnetic interference.
