Marine subwoofer JL Audio M3 10-inch with RGB LED, Sport white grille

The JL Audio M3 10-inch marine subwoofer, with Sport white grille and RGB LED lighting, reinforces the bass in the onboard audio system. This passive speaker accepts a continuous power rating of 175 W RMS at 4 ohms. Garmin recommends amplification of 50 to 175 W RMS per channel; it is not an integrated amplifier.

Mounting and acoustic load

It is designed to operate in infinite baffle configuration, without a dedicated enclosure, with a large rear air volume specified at 56.6 liters in the manual. This compartment must remain empty for optimal performance. A sealed enclosure can also be built according to the recommended net internal volume of 56.66 liters; the F3 cutoff of 42.9 Hz applies to this configuration, not to a universal frequency response of the speaker. Ported enclosures are not recommended.

Allow for a 225 mm cutout and 127 mm clearance behind the mounting surface. The overall diameter is 273 mm and the Sport grille extends 40 mm at the front. The net weight is 5.7 kg, not including shipping weight.

Marine installation

Only the front face is protected against water ingress: the rear, connections, and wires are not waterproof and must be kept protected from moisture. In areas exposed to weather or water, mounting on a vertical surface is mandatory. On the exterior of the boat, the speaker must be placed well above the waterline, avoiding immersion or impact with docks or equipment. Power to the audio system must be turned off before any connection.

RGB lighting

This exact model includes RGB LEDs. Their separate power supply operates from 10 to 14.4 V DC, with a maximum current of 108 mA at 14.4 V. Each speaker requires a 150 mA fast-blow fuse on the positive wire, at the power source end, in a marine fuse holder, even with a lighting controller. A controller enables color changes and effects; a fixed color can also be achieved by direct wiring per the manual. Decorative lighting must not be confused with navigation lights.

Supplied as a single unit with a Sport white grille, six screws and six stainless steel mounting washers, as well as logo badges for Sport models. No amplifier, enclosure, or RGB controller is listed in the official box contents.
