BMS NG

The VE.Bus BMS NG is a Battery Management System (BMS) designed specifically for lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries in the Victron Energy Lithium NG range. Its primary role is to protect and monitor these batteries within systems that include a Victron VE.Bus inverter/charger or inverter.

The VE.Bus BMS NG is compatible exclusively with Victron Energy Lithium NG batteries. It is not designed to be used with Victron Lithium Smart batteries (without the NG designation).

The BMS NG provides several essential protection functions:

It generates a pre-alarm in case of imminent cell undervoltage. It disables the inverter function of VE.Bus chargers/inverters and disconnects loads via its dedicated output in case of cell undervoltage. It disables charging of VE.Bus chargers/inverters, VE.Direct and VE.Can solar chargers (via a GX device), and disconnects other chargers in case of cell overvoltage, low temperature or overheating.

The VE.Bus BMS NG uses multiple communication interfaces:

VE.Bus: Two RJ45 ports allow connection to VE.Bus products such as MultiPlus, Quattro, or inverters.Bluetooth Smart: For configuration, monitoring, and firmware updates via the VictronConnect app on smartphone or tablet.Remote panel port: To connect GX devices (such as a Cerbo GX), Digital Multi Control (DMC) panels, or VE.Bus Smart dongles.

The VE.Bus BMS NG can be used to create battery banks suitable for 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V system voltages by combining 12.8 V, 25.6 V, and 51.2 V Lithium NG batteries in series, parallel, or a combination of both.

The VE.Bus BMS NG allows connecting:

Up to 50 batteries for 12V or 24V system configurations.Up to 25 batteries for 48V system configurations.This allows a maximum storage capacity of 192 kWh for 12V systems, 384 kWh for 24V systems, and 128 kWh for 48V systems.

Yes, the VE.Bus BMS NG includes Bluetooth Smart. This feature enables wireless configuration, monitoring, and software updates via the VictronConnect app. It also provides instant reading of key data such as state of charge (SoC), battery temperature, warnings, and alarms directly in the device list.

The DC power cable for the BMS is not included. A single-core cable of at least 0.75 mm² (AWG 16) must be used, with an inline fuse rated 1A.

Installation of the VE.Bus BMS NG must be performed exclusively by qualified and trained installers, strictly adhering to national safety regulations.

The VE.Bus BMS NG pre-alarm output is designed to trigger a visible or audible warning when battery voltage is low. It activates at least 30 seconds before the load-disconnect output is disabled due to cell undervoltage. It can drive a relay, LED, or buzzer, with a maximum output current of 1A.

The VE.Bus BMS NG has two main control outputs:

Load Disconnect output: Controls the remote on/off input of a BatteryProtect, inverters, DC-DC converters or other loads with this feature. It is normally high and goes floating in case of imminent cell undervoltage.

Charge Disconnect output: Controls the remote on/off port of chargers such as the Smart Charger IP43, a Cyrix-Li-Charge relay, a Cyrix-Li-ct or a BatteryProtect. It is normally high and goes floating in case of imminent cell overvoltage or overheating.

The remote on/off terminal (Remote L and Remote H) allows remote control of the load disconnection and charger outputs. When this terminal is disabled, both outputs become floating, thereby shutting down connected loads and chargers. It can be actuated by a switch or relay contact between L and H, or by connecting H to the battery positive or L to the battery negative.

Yes, the VE.Bus BMS NG can disable charging from VE.Direct and VE.Can solar chargers via a GX device in case of cell overvoltage, low temperature, or overheating.

The VE.Bus BMS NG is equipped with three LED indicators:

The current consumption of the VE.Bus BMS NG varies depending on its state:

The VE.Bus BMS NG features a dedicated power output (GX-Power) capable of supplying up to 1A to a GX device. This output powers the GX device from the battery or the auxiliary input (Aux-In), depending on the highest available voltage.

The VE.Bus BMS NG has an IP20 protection rating, meaning it is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm but offers no water protection.

The VE.Bus BMS NG is specifically designed to be compatible with Victron Energy Lithium NG batteries. It must not be confused with Lithium Smart batteries (without the NG designation), with which it is not compatible.
