The Victron Energy Smart IP43 Charger 48/13(1) 120–240V is an intelligent charging solution designed for 48V battery systems. It delivers a 13 A charge current, suitable for applications requiring stable power for a single battery bank. Unlike the (1+1) or (3) models in the same Smart IP43 Charger range, which offer multiple outputs for auxiliary or starter battery banks, this (1) version is optimized for simplified management of a single main battery.
Adaptive Charging Algorithm and Connectivity
This charger features a 6-stage adaptive charging algorithm (bulk – absorption – recondition – float – storage – refresh), optimized for different battery types, including Li-ion (LiFePO₄) batteries. The adaptive function automatically adjusts the charging process based on battery usage, extending its lifespan. Automatic voltage compensation corrects DC wiring voltage drops to ensure precise charging. Bluetooth Smart connectivity is built in, enabling configuration, monitoring, and remote control via the VictronConnect app. The charger can also be programmed via the VE.Direct interface for integration with GX devices such as the Cerbo GX, or for advanced settings via the VictronConnect app. Three preprogrammed algorithms can be selected using the mode button.
Advanced Features for Marine Performance
The Smart IP43 Charger 48/13(1) includes specific modes such as BatterySafe mode, which limits the rate of voltage increase to prevent damage from excessive gassing during fast charging. The Storage mode reduces float voltage after 24 hours without discharge to minimize gassing and corrosion of positive plates, with weekly equalization to prevent electrolyte stratification and sulfation. For Li-ion batteries, the charger can be controlled via a relay or optocoupler output from a Li-ion BMS. The Smart Battery Sense (SmartShunt or BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor) can be used to transmit battery voltage and temperature via VE.Smart Networking, enabling synchronized charging between multiple Smart IP43 chargers for improved efficiency and battery longevity. It can also function as a power supply, with configurable output voltage via Bluetooth or VE.Direct. The programmable relay can be set to activate in case of an alarm or other events.
