Boat cables: choosing the right electrical or electronic connection
This collection includes cables used on board: electrical cables sold by the meter, sheaths, coaxial cables, network cables, manufacturer cords, and adapters. To avoid ordering errors, first distinguish between cables sold by the meter and ready-to-install cords with fixed lengths or connectors.
- Cables sold by the meter — must be sized according to cross-section, number of conductors, voltage drop, and actual routing on the boat.
- Cords and adapters — must first be chosen based on equipment compatibility, connector type, protocol, and fixed length.
- Data cables, NMEA, Ethernet, and coaxial cables — should be physically separated from high-power cables when possible to limit interference.
Skysat tip
Before ordering, check the unit of sale. For cables sold by the meter, the quantity corresponds to the length in meters. For manufacturer cords, validate the exact equipment reference and allow extra slack without forcing bend radii.
