Electric fishing motors: precise positioning and silent approach

An electric fishing motor allows you to move the boat at low speed, hold a position without anchoring, and approach an area discreetly. On modern models, integrated GPS, virtual anchor, remote control, and integration with navigation displays turn the motor into a genuine fishing tool.

Sizing the motor correctly

• Thrust: choose sufficient reserve based on boat weight, wind, current, and freshwater or saltwater use.
• Voltage: plan a 24 V or 36 V battery bank consistent with motor power and expected range.
• Shaft length: match shaft length to freeboard so the propeller remains submerged in chop.
• Bow mount: check deck space, mounting plate, clearance, and access to controls.
• Electronics: verify compatibility with displays, transducers, charts, remote controls, and existing networks.

GPS, virtual anchor, and transducer integration

The virtual anchor keeps the boat in position without dropping anchor. Route tracking, automatic heading, and control from a compatible display are useful for fishing a drop-off, following a contour, or returning to a waypoint. Integrated transducers simplify installation but require checking the expected imaging type: CHIRP, ClearVü, SideVü, Active Imaging, or other technology depending on the brand.
