Thomas Coville
The record-breaker and perseverance
Thomas Coville is not just a skipper; he is an exceptional athlete and a pioneer. An iconic figure in the Ultim class, he embodies endurance and loyalty better than anyone. Partnered with Sodebo since 1999, he has made his mark on offshore racing history by shattering time barriers one after another.
The 49-day feat
On December 25, 2016, Thomas Coville entered legend status by completing the solo circumnavigation in 49 days and 3 hours. He became the first man to break the mythical 50-day solo barrier, smashing the previous record by over 8 days. This achievement proved it was possible to push a 32-meter giant trimaran at breakneck speeds, alone against the elements.
A relentless technological quest
An engineer by training, Thomas Coville approaches sailing with a technical and intellectual mindset. He doesn’t just sail—he innovates. From the Sodebo Ultim 1 (formerly Geronimo, refitted) to the highly innovative Sodebo Ultim 3 with its foils and revolutionary forward cockpit, he constantly pushes boundaries.
The trusted relationship with Skysat
For a sailor pushing past 40 knots in the Southern Ocean, electronics aren’t a luxury—they’re lifelines.
