The Class40 #186 by Sam Manuard, a second-generation scow

IBSA is Class40 no. 186, a Mach 40.5 designed by Sam Manuard and built by JPS Production (Nicolas Groleau) in La Trinité-sur-Mer. Technical launch on August 3, 2022, official christening on September 9, 2022. The boat raced under the colors of IBSA (Swiss pharmaceutical group based in Lugano) with Alberto Bona at the helm as part of the Sailing into the Future. Together program from 2022 to late 2024, then was purchased by Sasha Lanièce and has raced since 2025 under the name Alderan with the Les Déferlantes team.

Design and construction

The Mach 40.5 is the evolution of the Mach 40.4 in the lineage of Manuard scows for the Class40 class. The rounded bow (scow bow) increases power downwind without plowing, the cockpit is recessed and protected for single-handed sailing. JPS Production’s construction uses vacuum-bagged epoxy sandwich with high-density foam cores.
