Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for solid fiberglass hulls, the Garmin GT15M-IH is an in-hull transducer providing CHIRP mid-band capabilities. This 600 W transducer operates in the 85 to 165 kHz frequency range, delivering depth readings up to 579 meters (1900 feet) under optimal conditions. The in-hull installation eliminates the need to drill through the hull bottom, reducing drag and protecting the transducer from external damage.
Performance and compatibility
The GT15M-IH is specifically suited for fiberglass hulls up to 16 mm thick and deadrise angles from 0 to 25 degrees, using the four supplied plastic tanks. It excels at maintaining accurate depth readings at high speeds, a feature not always found in transom-mounted transducers that can be affected by turbulence. Unlike through-hull transducers that require a more invasive and often professional installation, the GT15M-IH offers a non-penetrating alternative. It provides only traditional CHIRP depth data and can be supplemented with additional Garmin transducers (such as GT36UHD-TM or GT56UHD-TM) via an optional Y-cable to add ClearVü and SideVü functionality.
Installation and integration
Installing the Garmin GT15M-IH involves bonding the tank inside the hull, filling it with antifreeze fluid or mineral oil, then inserting the transducer. This approach minimizes signal interference typically caused by turbulence from propellers or other hull features. The transducer is compatible with many Garmin ECHOMAP and GPSMAP chartplotters, though an adapter cable may be required for some models. Its 8-pin design ensures standardized connection to compatible Garmin systems.
