Detailed description
Detailed description
The Raymarine Micro Fluxgate S/A is a compact, self-contained heading sensor designed to provide reliable heading data to marine navigation systems. This fluxgate compass is a key component for autopilots, radar overlays, and multifunction displays (MFDs) requiring a stable heading reference. Its "Micro" format allows integration in confined spaces aboard various types of vessels.
Installation and system integration
The compass comes with an 8-meter (26-foot) cable and a mounting kit including four No8 x 3/4-inch self-tapping Phillips screws. Installation requires a 3 mm (1/8-inch) drill and a Phillips screwdriver. Proper positioning is critical for sensor performance: it must be mounted at a minimum distance of 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches) from any ferrous objects. For non-magnetic hulls, a distance of 1.2 meters (4 feet) is recommended from major magnetic components, while for magnetic hulls, this distance increases to 1.8 meters (6 feet). The compass can be installed horizontally or vertically. Initial setup is detailed in the Raymarine autopilot commissioning guide.
Technical functionality
As a fluxgate compass, the Raymarine Micro Fluxgate S/A measures the Earth's magnetic field and converts this data into a digital heading output. This functionality is fundamental for the proper operation of navigation systems requiring precise vessel heading information. Its design emphasizes stable heading data delivery, a prerequisite for autopilot system efficiency and navigation display accuracy.
