Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G FastNet H5000 interface is an essential data converter designed to ensure compatibility between legacy navigation systems and next-generation equipment. This module provides a technical solution for users looking to modernize an existing B&G H3000 installation with H5000 displays without requiring a full replacement of sensors. It enables a progressive and cost-effective upgrade of onboard electronics.
Functionality and network integration
This module receives instrument data from the proprietary B&G H3000 FastNet network and converts it for the H5000 network, which is based on the standard NMEA 2000® protocol. This approach allows proven H3000 sensors (wind, speed, depth) to be retained while benefiting from the performance and display quality of H5000 graphic displays, HV displays, or Zeus series multifunction displays. The installation is designed to be "plug-and-play," ensuring quick and simple integration. The data flow is strictly unidirectional, transmitting information from the H3000 network to the H5000 system, with no feedback.
Technical specifications and positioning
The H5000 FastNet interface operates at a nominal supply voltage of 12 V DC (range 9 to 16 V), with a typical power consumption of 1.2 watts (100 mA at 12 V). Its power consumption on the CAN bus is 0.6 watts (50 mA at 12 V), equivalent to 1 LEN NMEA 2000®. The module is black and features IPX4 environmental protection, making it splash-resistant. A safety distance of 0.3 meters (1.0 foot) must be maintained from a compass. This interface is positioned in the B&G range as a unique transition component. Unlike H5000 CPU processors or H5000 autopilot computers that form the core of a complete system, its role is not to process complex data but to act as a compatibility gateway between two generations of B&G technology. It differs from analog or serial expansion modules that directly manage sensors, focusing instead on protocol conversion for targeted and cost-effective modernization.
