Detailed description
Detailed description
The H5000 B&G serial expansion module is a key component for advanced integration of H5000 instrumentation systems. It is specifically designed to centralize data from external navigation equipment communicating via serial protocols, notably NMEA 0183. Unlike the H5000 analog expansion module, which handles analog sensors, this expansion focuses on acquiring and transmitting digital serial data, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of third-party or older instruments, essential for performance and racing sailboats.
Connectivity and network integration
The H5000 serial expansion provides robust connectivity with two configurable bidirectional serial ports (COM), compatible with the NMEA 0183 standard. It also integrates a Micro-C NMEA 2000 network port (1 LEN), enabling direct and seamless integration into the H5000 system’s main bus. This architecture facilitates the centralization of critical data from devices such as B&G HGSC gyrocompasses, GPS sensors, or other heading sensors. Flexibility is ensured by configuring NMEA 0183 sentences for input and output, as well as baud rate and refresh rate, adjustable via the H5000 processor’s web interface for precise adaptation to connected equipment.
Technical specifications and marine reliability
Designed for demanding marine environments, the H5000 serial expansion module operates on a nominal 12V DC power supply (10 to 16V DC range) with low power consumption of typically 0.6W (50 mA @ 12V) and requires protection by a 5A fuse. Its IP66 waterproof rating ensures effective protection against water splashes and dust. It operates within an extended temperature range from -10°C to +55°C. With compact dimensions of 61 x 131 x 45 mm and a weight of 0.17 kg, it installs discreetly on board. Compliance with IEC/EN 60945 attests to its robustness and reliability for professional marine applications, positioning it as a reliable solution compared to competitors like Garmin or Raymarine for critical serial data integration.
