Detailed description
Detailed description
The 720-MDVSO battery separator coupler from BEP represents a major evolution in onboard energy management. Designed to replace the older 720-MDVS and 720-MDVS-24V models, this voltage-sensitive switch (VSS) now features automatic 12/24V dual-voltage detection, eliminating the need for manual configuration. Its design is based on advanced digital circuitry combined with an optical position sensor, ensuring increased precision and efficiency during battery bank coupling and decoupling cycles.
Electrical performance and optimized thresholds
This module supports extreme loads with a continuous capacity of 500A, 700A intermittently, and up to 2500A at startup. Unlike the previous generation, the 720-MDVSO lowers its activation voltage to 13.3V (26.6V for 24V systems) after a 5-second delay, making it perfectly suited for low-efficiency alternators and high-temperature environments. The cutoff voltage is set at 12.7V (25.4V) with a 20-second delay to prevent oscillations. Additionally, standby power consumption has been drastically reduced by 70%, dropping to less than 5mA at 12V.
Installation and marine safety
System integration is simplified by robust power connections via two 12 mm tinned copper studs and a 3-wire control harness equipped with a Wago plug. Certified to IP65 and ignition-protected according to UL 1107, the high-temperature fiberglass-reinforced plastic housing withstands the most severe marine conditions. The system also offers a remote emergency parallel function for 10 minutes, along with a full manual override control for absolute safety onboard.
