Detailed description
Detailed description
The BEP Smart Battery Hub is an advanced battery management solution designed to optimize the performance and longevity of your 12V or 24V battery banks. This centralized system integrates a remote-controlled battery switch, a bidirectional configurable voltage-sensitive switch (VSS), and NMEA 2000 connectivity for seamless integration into modern marine electronic networks. With a continuous current capacity of 300 A, an intermittent current of 700 A, and a starting current of 1450 A, it outperforms traditional battery switches by offering intelligent management and robust overload capabilities.
Integration and Technical Performance
The Smart Battery Hub stands out for its ability to precisely monitor battery voltage, the current draw of the house bank, and its full state of charge (SOC). Engine battery monitoring is limited to voltage only, providing essential oversight. Equipped with an internal temperature sensor, it contributes to accurate state-of-charge calculations and transmits this data via the NMEA 2000 battery temperature PGN. Its low power consumption, under 5 mA in sleep mode, is a major advantage for standalone systems.
NMEA 2000 connectivity (1 Micro-C port, 1 LEN) allows the Smart Battery Hub to broadcast various PGNs, including fluid levels, pressure, temperature, battery voltage, and state of charge. It also features a USB port for firmware updates. In standalone mode, it transmits simple DC status messages. Compared to dedicated CZone modules, the Smart Battery Hub offers an integrated and streamlined solution, particularly suited for installations requiring intelligent management without the complexity of a full CZone system, while still allowing CZone integration via a dedicated dipswitch. The range includes variants such as the Smart Battery Hub Twin Engine (80-716-0030-00) and the Smart Battery Hub Triple Engine (80-716-0031-00), offering configurations tailored for multiple engine architectures.
Robustness and Configuration
Designed for the marine environment, the BEP Smart Battery Hub features an IPX7 ingress protection rating, ensuring water resistance. It complies with CE, ABYC, NMEA, ISO8846/SAEJ1171 (Ignition Protected), FCC Class B, and RoHS standards. Its operating temperature range is from -15°C to +55°C, and storage temperature from -40°C to +85°C. Configuration is performed via dipswitches, allowing the setting of safety locks for the VSS function and emergency parallel, as well as the configuration of the house battery or CZone device address. It includes three inputs for Master switch, two analog inputs (0-30V, 0-1000 Ohm, 4-20mA), and one input for an external battery temperature sensor, providing extensive integration flexibility.
