Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for managing three isolated battery banks, the Blue Sea Systems 8689B-BSS triple battery management panel integrates two Dual Circuit Plus switches from the M series. This panel efficiently manages onboard electrical power, offering simultaneous switching and the ability to combine batteries for emergency starting or charging. It is suitable for 12V and 24V systems, with a maximum DC voltage of 32V.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The switches integrated into the panel provide three switching positions. They handle a continuous current of 300A, an intermittent current of 450A (for 5 minutes), and a starting current of 1000A (for 10 seconds) and 650A (for 1 minute) per circuit. Connections are made via 3/8" - 16 (M10) terminal studs, requiring 4/0 AWG cable to meet rated values. The recommended tightening torque for the studs is 13.56 Nm (120 in-lb).
Safety and Integration
The integrated switches are rated IP67. The panel itself is not explicitly rated IP66 and may require protection if exposed to water. It is also ignition-protected, making it safe for installation on gasoline-powered boats and in engine compartments. The "Make-Before-Break" contact design allows switching between battery banks without interrupting power. Starting and service circuits are isolated, reducing the risk of fully discharging both batteries and protecting onboard electronics from voltage drops during engine start. The panel complies with ABYC E-11, UL 1500, and SAE J1171 standards for ignition protection. The included m-Series switches are CE-certified. Its tinned copper studs ensure maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance. The removable button provides a safety and lock function for maintenance.
