Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed as a secondary control unit for Furuno’s NavPilot 711C autopilot system, the FAP-7011C-E-A 4.1" additional control head provides extended helm control. It features a color display and network interface for precise, adaptable assisted navigation in varying sea conditions.
Display and Interfaces
This control head is equipped with a 4.1" TFT LCD color screen with QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). It offers 8 backlight intensity levels and a typical luminance of 700 cd/m², ensuring optimal visibility in bright sunlight and preserving night vision. For connectivity, it integrates dual NMEA2000 network interfaces and a Furuno CAN bus interface, providing system isolation and redundancy. The processor unit it connects to (FAP-7002) also provides 2 NMEA 0183 ports and 1 USB port for maintenance.
Advanced NavPilot Features
The NavPilot system uses a self-learning, adaptive software algorithm that optimizes course-keeping by dynamically adjusting parameters based on vessel speed, heel, draft, tidal effects, and wind. It offers multiple steering modes, including STBY, Auto, Dodge, Turn, Remote, Advanced Auto, Navigation, Wind, FishHunter™, and SABIKI™. Optional functions such as SAFE HELM and POWER ASSIST, which may require an FPS8 power steering module and HRP pumps, reduce manual steering effort.
Special Modes and Compatibility
The FishHunter™ mode enables the autopilot to execute automated maneuvers (square, zigzag, circle, orbit, spiral, or figure-eight) around a specified target, such as a fish detected by sonar or a radar bird target, and can be used for MOB situations. The SABIKI™ mode is designed for fishing, maintaining the desired heading astern with compensation for tidal and wind effects at a maximum speed of 5 knots. The system is compatible with various engine systems, including Yamaha Helm Master™, Yanmar, and the Seastar Optimus360 joystick system. Furuno’s Fantum Feedback™ technology eliminates the need for a physical rudder feedback unit in many sterndrive/outboard installations, simplifying installation and ensuring precise control. Setup is assisted by an on-screen wizard. The control head has an IP56 rating, making it resistant to dust and powerful water jets, and operates on 12–24 VDC power.
