Detailed description
The FURUNO C700 is an Iridium Certus maritime terminal designed for reliable offshore communication. It operates on Iridium’s network of 66 low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, providing pole-to-pole coverage. The terminal delivers data rates up to 352 kbps uplink (Certus 350) and up to 704 kbps downlink (Certus 700), with future IP streaming capability up to 256 kbps.
Communication capabilities and antenna
The C700 supports up to 3 simultaneous high-quality voice calls. Its antenna is a 12-element phased-array patch type, featuring a solid-state design with no moving parts, enhancing durability and reliability. It includes a Class H2 power amplifier to optimize uplink speeds. The antenna display unit (ADU) measures 270 mm in height and 370 mm in diameter, weighing approximately 7.3 kg.
Integration and technical specifications
The below-deck unit (BDU) of the FURUNO C700 measures 41 x 280 x 183.5 mm and weighs 3.5 kg. It features 4 LAN ports (including 2 PoE), 1 WAN port (RJ45), 1 POTS telephone port (RJ14) for analog phones, an SMA Wi-Fi connector, a SIM card slot, a GPIO connector, and a power connector. The required DC power input is 10.8 to 30 V, with a maximum consumption of 120 W. The ADU has an IP56 rating, while the BDU is rated IP31. Operating temperatures range from -25°C to +55°C for the ADU and from -15°C to +55°C for the BDU. The terminal is designed for a minimum operational lifespan of 10 years and is GMDSS-ready (SMDSM Ready).
