The FURUNO FAX-5 active antenna is a pre-amplification unit designed to enhance reception capability for FURUNO weather facsimile receivers. It is specifically compatible with models FAX-30, FAX-410, FAX-207, FAX-208A, FAX-210, and FAX-214, and can also interface with Furuno GPS and chartplotters.

Technical specifications of the FAX-5 antenna

This antenna operates over a wide frequency range from 80 kHz to 30 MHz, enabling full reception of weather facsimile and NAVTEX frequencies. The unit is supplied with a 15-meter coaxial interconnect cable. For full operation, a separate antenna whip must be added. The pre-amplification unit is mounted, and the antenna whip is screwed onto it. Proper grounding is recommended to optimize performance.

Integration and compatibility

The FAX-5 antenna is an optional component for FAX-30 and FAX-410 receivers. The FURUNO FAX-30 receiver is a "black box" unit that turns any NavNet display or PC into a Weatherfax and NAVTEX receiver. It connects directly to a 10.4-inch NavNet display or an Ethernet hub, allowing weather charts to be viewed on a PC via an internet browser. It stores up to 12 weather facsimile images and 130 NAVTEX messages. The FURUNO FAX-410 integrates a thermal print head system on 10-inch thermal paper, offering 9 grayscale levels for clear charts. It features automatic channel selection and an integrated scheduler for fully automatic operation.
