Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for depth readings only, the Garmin Airmar P79 transducer is a plastic oil-filled transducer rated at 600 W, ideal for owners of small boats with solid fiberglass hulls. This model features an in-hull installation, avoiding any hull perforation or protruding elements, making it particularly suitable for trailerable boats or those frequently beached.
Technical performance and compatibility
The Airmar P79 transducer delivers 600 W of power and operates on two distinct frequencies: 50 kHz with a 45° beam for depth performance up to 305 m (1000 ft), and 200 kHz with a 12° beam for readings up to 183 m (600 ft). Its hull angle compensation capability allows easy adjustment for drift angles up to 22°, ensuring the acoustic beam remains vertically aligned for optimal accuracy. The transducer is equipped with an 8-pin Garmin connector and a 7.6 m (25 ft) cable.
Installation and applications
Installing the Airmar P79 requires no hull drilling, as the mounting housing is bonded directly inside. A non-toxic antifreeze-based cooling liquid ensures efficient sound transmission through the fiberglass hull. This transducer is recommended for boats under 8 m (26 ft), including planing powerboats, rigid inflatable boats (RIBs), and racing sailboats. The hull must be solid fiberglass with a maximum thickness of 1.59 cm (5/8"), as it is not compatible with cored hulls.
