Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for solid fiberglass hulls, the Garmin Airmar P79S is an in-hull depth sensing solution that eliminates the need to drill through the hull. Featuring Smart™ Sensor technology, this 100 W, 235 kHz transducer delivers accurate depth data directly to the vessel’s NMEA 2000 network. Suitable for boats up to 8 meters (26 feet), it offers a maximum range of 150 meters (500 feet).
Smart™ Sensor Technology and NMEA 2000 Connectivity
The P79S stands out with integrated microelectronics that process depth signals within the sensor itself. This Smart™ Sensor technology ensures digital data transmission via a 6-meter NMEA 2000 cable with Micro connector, simplifying installation and integration with Garmin navigation systems or any other NMEA 2000-compatible display. The single 235 kHz frequency is specifically chosen to avoid mutual interference with other transducers onboard, an advantage over traditional dual-frequency transducers.
Flexible Installation and Optimized Performance
The Airmar P79S transducer installs inside the hull, preserving the boat’s structural integrity and avoiding turbulence beneath the hull. Its adjustable plastic mounting bracket can compensate for deadrise angles from 2° to 22°, ensuring the 7° beam is always directed vertically for optimal readings. The oil-filled housing, filled with non-toxic propylene glycol, ensures efficient acoustic transmission through fiberglass hulls. Unlike through-hull transducers that require drilling or transom-mount transducers like the Airmar P39, the P79S offers a discreet installation that can be performed even when the boat is afloat.
