Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for single-engine outboard motorboats, typically under 25 feet (up to 30 feet according to some sources), equipped with hydraulic steering systems, the Garmin Compact Reactor™ 40 autopilot kit, paired with the GHC™ 50 instrument, provides an integrated navigation solution. This system features a rugged 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) unit that minimizes heading error, route deviation, and rudder movements while optimizing power consumption. This technology allows flexible mounting options for the compass control unit (CCU).
Autopilot integration and performance
The Compact Reactor 40 autopilot responds to sea conditions, ensuring stable course holding even in swell. It is NMEA 2000® certified for seamless network communication, enabling heading data sharing with other Garmin devices. This integration enables advanced functions such as MARPA and chart overlay when connected to compatible Garmin radar and chartplotters. Garmin’s Shadow Drive™ technology, available as an option, allows automatic disengagement of the autopilot during manual maneuvers and reactivation once the course is stabilized. The system is compatible with Garmin chartplotters for direct control or with up to three GHC instruments.
GHC™ 50 interface: display and connectivity
The GHC 50 instrument features a 5-inch (800 x 480 pixels) WVGA touchscreen with edge-to-edge glass finish, providing an aesthetic integration with modern GPSMAP® chartplotters. Its 1200 cd/m² (NIT) bright display with anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint treatment ensures optimal readability. With NMEA 2000®, Garmin Marine Network, and ANT+® connectivity, the GHC 50 offers wired or wireless operation flexibility. It is powered via the NMEA 2000 network (9 to 16 Vdc) and has a typical consumption of 220 mA at 12 Vdc. The device is rated IPX7, ensuring resistance to accidental immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
