Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for demanding sailors aboard large yachts and sport fishing boats, Garmin’s GMR™ 1224/1226 xHD2 radar pedestal is the core of 12 kW open-array high-definition radar systems. This pedestal integrates xHD2 technology, capable of generating high-resolution radar images with a maximum range of 72 nautical miles (133 km).
Advanced Performance and Image Processing
The Garmin GMR 1224/1226 xHD2 pedestal delivers 12 kW of transmit power, ensuring reliable detection and improved target separation. It supports dual rotation speeds of 24 and 48 RPM for rapid radar image updates, essential in dynamic environments. The 8-bit true-color display enables precise differentiation of targets and enhances separation, providing superior clarity compared to entry-level systems or low-power dome radars. This system outperforms 4 kW or 6 kW GMR xHD2 models, such as the GMR 424/426 xHD2, in range and detection capability.
Specific Features for Navigation and Fishing
This pedestal serves as the foundation for advanced software features. The "Bird Mode" automatically adjusts sensitivity to locate flocks of birds, indicating potential fish schools. The "Dual Range" function allows simultaneous display of short- and long-range radar returns on a split screen. The "Dynamic Auto Gain" and "Dynamic Sea Filter" filters automatically adjust gain and sea clutter rejection to optimize performance in varying sea conditions. The MARPA (Mini-Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) function enables tracking of up to 30 selected targets, aiding in collision threat identification. "Radar Overlay" superimposes radar images directly onto the marine chart of a compatible chartplotter, while "Echo Trails" display the historical movement of targets. Dual radar support provides redundancy and display flexibility. Tools such as VRM (Variable Range Markers) and EBL (Electronic Bearing Lines) are included for quick distance and bearing measurements. The pedestal is rated IPX6 for water resistance, handling powerful water jets, and operates on 10–32V DC systems, with a rotation noise level below 58 dB SPL.
