Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GT15M-TH through-hull transducer is designed for recreational boaters and anglers seeking clear seabed definition, precise fish arches, and effective target separation. Positioned within Garmin’s mid-band CHIRP sonar range, it provides a balanced solution for mid-sized vessels, including fishing boats and cruisers.
CHIRP Mid-Band Technology and Performance
The GT15M-TH operates on a CHIRP mid-band frequency range (85–165 kHz). This frequency range is selected for its balance between wide coverage and detailed target resolution. With 600 W of power, this transducer can reach depths of 365 meters (1,200 feet) in saltwater and up to 579 meters (1,900 feet) in freshwater, providing depth and temperature data. Its 24°–16° beam (or 24°–13° depending on source) ensures efficient detection beneath the vessel. This mid-band CHIRP positioning distinguishes it from low-frequency transducers (for very deep water) or high-frequency transducers (for shallow-water detail), making it versatile for various coastal and moderate offshore fishing conditions.
Through-Hull Installation and Compatibility
The GT15M-TH’s through-hull design allows flush mounting, optimizing sonar performance by minimizing drag and ensuring constant contact with undisturbed water. The bronze housing is compatible with a wide range of hull materials, including fiberglass, composite, steel, aluminum, and wood. It supports deadrise angles from 0° to 7° (flat version), 8° to 15° (12° tilt version), and 16° to 24° (20° tilt version), potentially requiring a fairing block for deadrise angles above 5°. Installation is simplified with an 8-pin connector and Garmin’s auto-identification technology, enabling automatic configuration with compatible chartplotters. The 6-meter (20-foot) cable facilitates connection to the main unit.
