Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GT36-TM and GT8HW-IH transducer pack is designed to provide a complete and optimized sonar solution, targeting recreational boaters and anglers seeking both reliable high-speed depth detection and detailed imaging of structures and fish. This bundle is particularly suited to boats with fiberglass hulls.
Garmin GT36-TM transducer: Precision UHD imaging
The GT36-TM transducer, intended for transom or electric motor mounting, integrates Garmin’s Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and SideVü scanning sonar technologies. It operates on CHIRP frequencies of 455 kHz (425–485 kHz), 800 kHz (790–850 kHz), and 1000 kHz (940–1100 kHz), with a power output of 500 W. This versatility delivers clear, distinct images of the seafloor and targets, with a maximum depth of 400 ft in ClearVü and 500 ft in SideVü. High-contrast color palettes enhance structure identification. Its narrow beam (0.52° x 52° at 1000 kHz) ensures fine resolution. Unlike traditional transducers focused on vertical depth, the GT36-TM excels in lateral and under-boat visualization with high detail, comparable to Garmin’s premium UHD range.
Garmin GT8HW-IH transducer: High-speed performance
The GT8HW-IH is an in-hull through-hull transducer designed specifically for fiberglass hulls. It delivers a traditional high-frequency, broadband CHIRP sonar (145–230 kHz) with a power output of 250 W. Its in-hull design, requiring no hull penetration, makes it ideal for boats unable to accommodate an external transducer or those needing accurate depth readings at high speeds, up to 800 ft in freshwater. It is compatible with hull deadrise angles from 0° to 6°. This transducer is particularly valued on bass boats or other high-speed craft where external transducer cavitation can degrade performance, offering a reliable alternative to transom-mount transducers like the GT36-TM for primary depth reading.
Garmin pack integration and positioning
This pack cleverly combines the strengths of two complementary transducer types via a Y-cable (12-pin and 8-pin to 12-pin sounder adapter included). The GT8HW-IH provides consistent, reliable depth data even at top speed, without generating drag or turbulence, while being protected from impacts. Meanwhile, the GT36-TM offers a panoramic, detailed underwater view for fishing and navigation at moderate speeds. This combination outperforms the capabilities of a single multifunction transducer that would have to compromise between high-speed performance and detailed imaging. The pack targets demanding users who want the best of both worlds without trade-offs, positioning this Garmin offering as a top-tier solution for in-depth knowledge of their boat’s underwater environment.
