Detailed description
Detailed description
Specifically designed for racing sailing, the Garmin gWind™ Race anemometer provides wind data with precision suited to regatta requirements. It features a straight 1-meter (3.3-foot) mast that positions the sensor above the masthead, reducing turbulence errors generated by sails. This design is crucial for obtaining undisturbed wind measurements, essential for polar calculations and race strategy.
Advanced Precision and Integration
The gWind™ Race transducer integrates a three-blade propeller, optimized for accurate true wind speed (TWS) measurements, particularly in light winds. Its dual-fin design ensures increased stability of the true wind angle (TWA), minimizing fluctuations caused by boat movements. Thanks to its optical reading technology, it guarantees reliable performance even at low wind speeds and excellent linearity for consistent data. This transducer requires the GND™ 10 black box (sold separately) to operate, enabling NMEA 2000® data bridging to the Nexus network, facilitating integration with compatible Garmin chartplotters and Nexus sailing equipment. The GND™ 10 provides plug-and-play connectivity between Nexus, Garmin, and NMEA 2000 networks, and allows calibration via NexusRace™ software.
Positioning and Technical Specifications
Compared to the standard gWind transducer, the Race version stands out with its extended mast and competition-focused optimizations, such as the 1-meter mast and sensor technologies for increased precision. Its specifications include wind angle accuracy better than ±1.5° and speed accuracy better than ±3%. It operates within a wind speed range of 0.8 to 90 knots (0.4–50 m/s). The GND™ 10, measuring 170 x 90 x 50 mm and weighing 196 g, is rated IPX7 and operates between -15°C and 70°C. These technical features position the gWind™ Race as a choice for demanding sailors seeking reliable and precise wind data to optimize race performance.
