Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed specifically for sailing, the GARMIN gWind™ wind sensor provides precise and reliable wind measurement. This wind sensor combines advanced dual-vane technology with a 3-blade propeller to deliver stable true wind angle (TWA) and true wind speed (TWS) data, even in light winds. Unlike cup-based systems, this design ensures continuous and responsive measurement, essential for performance optimization in regattas or cruising.
Accuracy and System Integration
The gWind™ sensor stands out for its accuracy, with an angle accuracy better than ±1.5° and speed accuracy better than ±3% over a range of 0.8 to 90 knots (0.4 to 50 m/s). These performances are achieved through optical reading technology, ensuring excellent linearity and increased sensitivity at low speeds. To integrate the gWind™ sensor, it must be connected to the Garmin GND™ 10 (sold separately). The GND™ 10 acts as a bridge, converting data from the Nexus network to the NMEA 2000® network, enabling extended compatibility with Garmin chartplotters and Nexus navigation instruments.
Robust Design and Maintenance
With dimensions of 345 mm x 610 mm and a weight of 260 g, the gWind™ sensor is designed to be masthead-mounted. It features IPX6 water resistance, ensuring durability in marine environments. Its operating temperature range is from -15°C to 70°C. This version includes a 25 m Nexus mast cable with a self-install connector, making it ideal for replacing an existing gWind™ sensor or for new installations where the GND™ 10 is already present or purchased separately. Maintenance is simplified, requiring only gentle soapy water cleaning and regular rinsing.
