Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for precise marine navigation, the Garmin Marine Satellite Compass MSC™ 10 is an advanced electronic compass integrating a multi-band GPS receiver. Unlike traditional magnetic compasses, it avoids magnetic interference by deriving heading data from satellite signals. It offers a heading accuracy of 2 degrees RMS, a position accuracy of less than 1 meter CEP, and a heave accuracy of 8 cm RMS.
Advanced Precision and Integration
The MSC™ 10 uses multi-band GNSS technology (GPS L1 and L5) and supports multiple constellations (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou) for improved position and heading acquisition. Its 10 Hz refresh rate ensures detailed tracking of vessel movements. It provides pitch, roll, and heave data, essential for autopilot systems and other equipment requiring reliable attitude information, even in rough seas.
This compass integrates an Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) that optimizes GPS heading stability at all speeds, including during pitching, sharp turns, or when stationary. It serves as a primary sensor for demanding autopilots. Integration is via the NMEA 2000 network, enabling transmission of heading, pitch, roll, and heave data to compatible Garmin chartplotters. In the event of a satellite signal loss, the MSC™ 10 can switch to a heading based on an internal magnetometer, subject to calibration.
Installation and Durability
The MSC™ 10 compass comes with a 6-meter cable, an NMEA 2000 T-connector, and a mounting template for simplified installation. It can be surface-mounted or on a standard 1-inch external diameter threaded mast, with internal or external cable routing. Its robust design, featuring a shock-resistant plastic alloy housing sealed with adhesive, provides IPX7 waterproofing, suitable for demanding marine environments. It operates within a voltage range of 9 to 32 Vdc and consumes 180 mA at 12 Vdc, with an NMEA 2000 LEN of 6 (300 mA max).
