Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed to modernize your navigation system, the NMEA 2000 adapter for Garmin GRA™ 10 rudder angle sensor converts analog data from an existing rudder angle sensor or gauge into a digital NMEA 2000 signal. This bridge allows precise rudder angle display on compatible Garmin devices connected to your NMEA 2000 network, optimizing the integration of older equipment into a modern setup.
Integration and Compatibility
The GRA™ 10 connects to 12 V DC analog gauges or directly to resistive rudder angle sensors (0-5 V DC type). It provides a solution for users wishing to retain their analog equipment while benefiting from the advantages of a digital network. Unlike Garmin’s GRF™ 10 rudder position sensor, which is a complete sensor + NMEA 2000 output solution, the GRA™ 10 acts as an adapter for already installed sensors. It does not provide feedback for autopilot systems that require a dedicated sensor but displays the information for reference on compatible displays.
Technical Specifications and Installation
With compact dimensions of 24.7 x 17.0 x 78.6 mm and a weight of 365 g, the GRA™ 10 includes a 4.9 m cable. Its thermoplastic rubber housing with overmolded PCB and PVC connectors/cable glands provide IPX7 waterproofing (IEC 529 standard), allowing immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It operates in a temperature range of -15°C to 70°C and must be installed at least 5 cm away from a magnetic compass. The adapter is powered by the NMEA 2000 bus (9-16 V DC), with a maximum power consumption of 1.1 W and a Load Equivalency Number (LEN) of 2 (100 mA). It supports transmission of PGN 127245 (Rudder) and reception of PGN 059904 (ISO Request) and 060928 (ISO Address Claim). Installation requires calibration of the rudder angle via a compatible Garmin display device.
