Detailed description
Designed for harsh marine environments, the CV3F by LCJ CAPTEURS is an ultrasonic wind transducer / vane anemometer for workboats and commercial vessels. This instrument measures apparent wind using solid-state technology with no moving parts, ensuring reliable and accurate readings in varied conditions. It provides wind speed and direction data, along with air temperature.
Technology and Accurate Measurements
The CV3F uses four electro-acoustic transducers communicating via ultrasonic signals. Wind speed and direction are determined by analyzing the transit time differences of waves induced by airflow. An integrated temperature sensor refines data calibration.
- Wind speed range: 0.5 to 99.5 knots
- Wind speed resolution: 0.1 knot
- Wind speed sensitivity: 0.5 knot
- Wind direction range: 0 to 359°
- Wind direction resolution: 1 degree
- Wind direction sensitivity: ± 1.5 degrees
- Temperature range: -10°C (no icing) to +50°C
- Temperature sensitivity: ± 0.5°C
Integration and Durability
The CV3F operates on 10 to 14 Vdc (12V nominal) with a 25 mA current draw. The sensor transmits data via an NMEA 0183 digital output at 4800 baud. NMEA sentences include MWV (wind angle and speed, validity) updated twice per second, and XDR (air temperature). For NMEA 2000 compatibility, the CV3F can be paired with an optional WindyPlug interface.
The sensor ships with a 25 m RG58 coaxial cable and a junction box for power and display connections. Its solid-state design eliminates mechanical wear, making the unit shock-resistant and suitable for harsh marine conditions. The vertical sensor arm measures 31 cm.
