Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for safety and communication at sea, the Lowrance Link-9 marine VHF radio with ASN and AIS-RX is a fixed solution integrating essential functions. It represents an evolution of the Link-8 model, offering advanced communication and monitoring capabilities for recreational boaters and light commercial vessels. This Class D fixed VHF transceiver features selectable transmit power of 25 W or 1 W, allowing adaptation to short- or long-range communication needs.
Integrated AIS Security and Monitoring
The Link-9 integrates a dual-channel AIS receiver capable of monitoring up to 150 AIS targets simultaneously. This feature enables the display of information from nearby AIS-equipped vessels, such as status, destination, ETA, ship name, type, call sign, MMSI number, and position, contributing to collision avoidance. This data can be shown on the device’s 256x160-pixel monochrome FSTN LCD screen or overlaid on a compatible multifunction display via NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 networks.
GPS Location and Network Connectivity
With its integrated GPS receiver, the Lowrance Link-9 ensures accurate and reliable positioning. It offers four methods to obtain a GPS fix: an integrated antenna, an SMA connector for an optional external GPS antenna (GPS-500), an NMEA 0183 input from a chartplotter, and an NMEA 2000 connection for a network antenna. This versatility ensures position data availability for ASN distress calls. The radio integrates easily with Lowrance navigation systems via its NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 ports, supporting specific PGNs for smooth data communication. It is compatible with 12 V DC power, with overvoltage protection above 15.8 V and a low-battery alert at 10.5 V DC.
Advanced Features and Flexible Installation
The Link-9 is equipped with a removable 6-button microphone with an integrated speaker, which can be connected to the front or rear of the radio, with an optional extension cable for remote installation. Its mechanical design allows simplified front mounting with easily removable top and bottom frames, blending seamlessly with the aesthetics of Lowrance multifunction displays. Additional functions include a dedicated MOB button to instantly mark a man-overboard position and provide return instructions, as well as the Track Your Buddy™ feature to track up to five contacts via DSC position requests. The radio also features a navigation mode displaying speed and heading, a public address/horn output with listen-in function, and supports Dual Watch, Tri Watch, and All Scan scanning modes. The unit is IPx7 certified for water resistance and operates within a temperature range of -20 °C to +55 °C.
