Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed to enhance navigation safety, the Navico ForwardScan depth sounder provides a clear two-dimensional image of the seabed ahead of the vessel. This technology is particularly useful for confident navigation in shallow waters, poorly charted or unknown areas, allowing anticipation of underwater obstacles.
Technical Performance and Features
The ForwardScan depth sounder operates at a frequency of 180 kHz, which helps reduce interference with traditional 200 kHz depth sounders by up to 20%. It offers forward-looking 2D sonar imaging with data updates up to ten times faster than previous systems, ensuring real-time information. The forward detection range can reach up to eight times the current depth, with a nominal operational range of four to five times the depth. For example, at a depth of 3 meters, the depth sounder can display up to 24 meters ahead.
Integration and Installation
The ForwardScan depth sounder is installed through-hull, requiring a 50.8 mm (2-inch) stainless steel thru-hull fitting. A long-rod version is available for hulls up to 47.6 mm (1 7/8 inches) thick and with keel angles up to 28 degrees. A 10-meter cable is included for connection. The depth sounder includes a temperature sensor. It connects directly to compatible Simrad NSS evo2 and GO XSE MFDs. For Simrad NSO evo2 systems, connection via an optional SonarHub sounder module is required. For B&G systems, it connects directly to Vulcan and Zeus³ chartplotters. For other systems such as B&G Zeus², Zeus² Glass Helm, and Zeus³ Glass Helm, connection via an optional SonarHub sounder module is required. Network integration allows ForwardScan data to be viewed and controlled on multiple displays and via GoFree on tablets.
Navigation Assistance
Features include color-coded seabed tracking for easier interpretation, integration of ForwardScan depth data into the heading line on charts, and customizable shallow-water depth alarms. Automatic range and depth options adjust scales for optimal visualization without manual intervention. The user manual provides safety (green), warning (yellow), and critical (red) zones for the ForwardScan forward extension.
