Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for modern electronic steering systems, the Navico NAC-D autopilot computer (part number 000-15621-001) is a dedicated "steer-by-wire" solution. It provides direct integration with electronic engine control systems (EVC) from brands such as Volvo IPS/EVC, Yamaha Helm Master/single engine, SeaStar Solutions Optimus, and Yanmar VC10/JC10. Unlike traditional autopilot computers like the NAC-2 or NAC-3, which require a hydraulic pump and rudder angle sensor, the NAC-D significantly simplifies installation by connecting directly via NMEA 2000 without the need for additional hydraulic components or in-harbor rudder calibration.
Advanced integration and connectivity
The NAC-D stands out with its NMEA 2000 connectivity, featuring two Micro-C ports and 2 LEN for seamless integration into the vessel’s electronic ecosystem. Its design excludes NMEA 0183, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi support, focusing on reliable CAN-bus communication for Optimus steering systems. The device is powered via the CAN network (9–16V) with a typical consumption of 40mA, making it energy-efficient. Control can be managed via dedicated controllers such as the AP 44 or AP 48, or integrated into compatible Simrad multifunction displays.
Performance and steering features
This computer integrates Navico’s Continuum Steering technology, ensuring precise and reliable course-keeping. The SteadySteer™ function optimizes rudder performance across different points of sail by automatically switching between two speed profiles. The NAC-D offers an extensive range of advanced turning patterns, including U-turn, spiral turn, zigzag, C-turn, box turn, S-turn, and depth tracking (Depth Counter Tracking). With an IP44 ingress protection rating, a weight of 0.1 kg, and compact dimensions (86.5 x 20.0 x 11.5 mm), it installs discreetly inline with the cable, requiring a 0.5-meter safety distance from the compass.
