Detailed description
Detailed description
The Navico NRS-1 Marine VHF System Blackbox is a VHF "blackbox" transponder designed as the central unit for Simrad RS100 and B&G V100 marine communication systems. This VHF radio processor delivers robust communication capabilities and installation flexibility, enabling full integration into the vessel’s electronics network.
Connectivity and Essential Functions
The NRS-1 integrates NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity for seamless network integration. It features an integrated GPS receiver, essential for Digital Selective Calling (DSC) functions, and can also utilize an external GPS source via the network. The system supports up to four wired HS100 handsets and/or four wireless HS40 handsets, allowing communication management from multiple points aboard. It also provides outputs for up to four external speakers and an optional megaphone/horn function.
Safety and Compliance
Approved Class D DSC, the Navico NRS-1 enables transmission and reception of distress signals including current position, as well as direct calls to other DSC-equipped radios. DSC functions require a valid MMSI number, which cannot be modified by the user once registered and must be reset by a qualified technician. ATIS identification is also required for navigation on certain inland waterways in the European Union. The system complies with various standards, including EN 60945, EN 301 843-1, EN 301 489-1, EN 301 025, EN 62287-1 (AIS Class B), EN 61162-1/2 (digital interfaces) and EN 61108-1 (GPS).
Advanced Features
Key features of the NRS-1 include a 60-second audio rewind function to ensure no important calls are missed. External speakers are configurable, allowing volume offset and grouping of handset backlight settings with NMEA 2000 backlight groups for integrated control with multifunction displays (MFD). The "Track Buddy" function allows tracking of up to five "friends" via their VHF MMSI. It is important to note that, unlike its predecessor Simrad RS90, the NRS-1 does not include an integrated AIS receiver. AIS functionality is available on the NRS-2 model or requires an optional external AIS receiver.
