M200 — PROFESSIONAL AIS MOB BEACON Class M and 121.5 MHz - NON ATEX

The Ocean Signal M200 professional MOB beacon is a marine survivor locating device (MSLD) compliant with AIS Class M regulations (ECC/DEC/(22)02). Designed for marine safety, it integrates multiple alert methods to optimize the speed of rescue operations for recreational boaters and professionals.

Integrated location technologies

The M200 transmits distress signals via Automatic Identification System (AIS), Digital Selective Calling (DSC), and a 121.5 MHz homing signal. Upon activation, it broadcasts an initial individual distress message in under 15 seconds, followed by 8 AIS messages per minute. Each AIS message sequence includes precise GNSS coordinates obtained via its multi-constellation receiver (GPS and Galileo).

A built-in VHF DSC transceiver can send messages such as individual distress relay calls, group calls, or all-ships distress alerts, depending on national regulations. An integrated DSC receiver stops continuous DSC transmissions once a distress signal has been acknowledged. DSC transmission power is 1 Watt (EIRP) on a 156.525 MHz frequency. The 121.5 MHz homing frequency facilitates short-range tracking.

Design and additional features

The M200 features dual infrared (IR) and white strobe lights for enhanced visibility, with IR aiding detection by thermal cameras. It can be activated automatically when integrated with an inflatable lifejacket or manually. It offers an operational autonomy of over 12 hours and uses a lithium battery (LiMnO2) with a 5-year lifespan, which must be replaced by an Ocean Signal authorized service center.

Measuring 115 mm (H) x 46 mm (L) x 27 mm (D) and weighing 119 g, the M200 is compact. It is waterproof to 10 meters and operates within a temperature range of -20°C to +55°C. Near Field Communication (NFC) connectivity allows users to access the Ocean Signal mobile app to view usage data, battery status, self-test history, and enter the vessel’s MMSI without draining the beacon’s internal battery.
