Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for wheel-steered sailboats, the Raymarine Evolution Wheel Pilot T70152 is a complete autopilot system integrating the latest technological advances from the brand. It combines the EV-1 intelligent sensor, the ACU-100 actuator control unit, the p70s control head, and a dedicated wheel drive, providing a steering solution for mid-sized cruising boats.
EV-1 sensor accuracy
The heart of the system is the Evolution EV-1 sensor, a 9-axis sensor unit that continuously monitors heading, pitch, roll, and yaw. This technology enables precise detection of boat movements, ensuring reliable course-keeping and rapid response to changing conditions. Unlike previous-generation pilots that used less sophisticated fluxgate sensors, the EV-1 eliminates the need for complex calibration and provides stable data to the computer, even in rough seas.
SeaTalk NG control and connectivity
The ACU-100 actuator control unit is specifically sized for type 0.5 drives, such as the wheel drive included in this kit. It provides the power and control interface between the SeaTalk NG network and the autopilot drive unit. Powered by 12 V DC, the ACU-100 is designed for applications where electrical consumption is a consideration. The p70s control head, with its color display and dedicated buttons, offers an intuitive user interface for managing all autopilot functions. The entire system communicates via Raymarine’s SeaTalk NG protocol, a plug-and-play network that simplifies installation and integration with other Raymarine instruments.
Positioning within the Raymarine Evolution range
The Evolution Wheel Pilot system with ACU-100 is positioned as an integrated solution for small to mid-sized wheel-steered sailboats. It differs from Evolution kits equipped with ACU-200, ACU-300, or ACU-400, which are intended for larger boats requiring higher-power hydraulic or linear drives. While a tiller pilot such as the Raymarine ST1000/2000 is suitable for small dinghies or lightweight cruisers, the T70152 offers a higher level of performance, integration, and features, comparable to Garmin Reactor 40 wheel pilots, but within Raymarine’s SeaTalk NG ecosystem. This kit is ideal for sailors seeking reliable autopilot assistance without the bulk or complexity of a large-scale system.
