Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for tiller-steered sailboats up to 34 feet (10 meters) and a maximum displacement of 4,536 kg, the Simrad TP22 Tillerpilot is a reliable autopilot. It provides precise and stable steering, optimizing course-keeping in various sea conditions.
Performance and connectivity
The TP22 Tillerpilot operates on a nominal voltage of 12V DC, with an operating range of 10 to 16V DC. Its power consumption is 60 mA in standby mode and 500 mA in automatic mode, contributing to extended battery life. Its screw-drive mechanism delivers a maximum thrust of 70 kg and a stroke of 250 mm (10 inches). The full-stroke time is 6.9 seconds.
Connectivity is provided via a SimNet interface for plug-and-play installation and integration with other Simrad equipment. It is also compatible with NMEA 0183 (versions 2.0, 2.3, and 3.0) at a baud rate of 4800. This compatibility allows for receiving external data for advanced functions.
Features and use
The TP22 offers multiple operating modes, including "Steer-to-Compass" for maintaining a constant heading. When connected to wind and GPS data sources via SimNet or NMEA 0183, it can activate "Steer to Wind" and "Steer to Waypoint" modes, as well as auto-tack and gybe functions. Its interface is intuitive with just five buttons to access all functions. The unit is designed for silent operation and features sealed joints for protection against marine elements. It is mounted by default on the starboard side but can be reversed for port-side installation. The operating ambient temperature range is from -10°C to +55°C.
