Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy GlobalLink 520 is a communication gateway designed for remote monitoring of Victron systems via the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal. It targets installations requiring reliable cellular connectivity for tracking critical data. Unlike the GlobalLink 530, which supports LTE-M and NB-IoT networks, the GlobalLink 520 focuses on 4G LTE-M (LTE Cat-M1), optimized for IoT applications. This approach ensures low power consumption and stable connectivity even while moving, making it ideal for recreational vehicles such as motorhomes.
Connectivity and System Integration
The device integrates two isolated VE.Direct communication ports, allowing wired connection of devices such as BMV battery monitors, SmartShunts, MPPT solar chargers, or Phoenix inverters. It also supports up to 10 Victron Smart products via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and RuuviTag sensors, transmitting temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure data to the VRM portal. The GlobalLink 520 is also equipped with two configurable digital inputs (usable as pulse counters) and a remotely controllable relay, offering additional monitoring and control capabilities.
Autonomy and Reliability
Powered by a wide voltage range of 8 to 70 VDC, the GlobalLink 520 features minimal power consumption, ranging from 5 mA at 48V (Bluetooth disabled, relay open) to 64 mA at 12V (Bluetooth enabled, relay closed). It comes with a preinstalled and prepaid SIM card providing five years of 4G LTE-M connectivity at no additional cost, simplifying deployment. An internal antenna is integrated, supplemented by an SMA connector for an optional external antenna, enabling signal strength optimization even in poor reception areas. Configuration is streamlined via the VictronConnect app, making the device operational right out of the box.
