Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8) is an advanced battery management system (BMS) designed specifically for Victron Lithium Battery Smart batteries. Positioned as the most comprehensive and feature-rich option in Victron’s BMS range, it integrates seamlessly into the Lynx distribution system. This BMS centralizes the management, protection, and monitoring of your lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery bank for 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V systems.
Integrated protection and performance
The Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8) includes a 500 A continuous (600 A peak for 5 minutes) main safety contactor, acting as a secondary protection system in case of failure of primary controls (ATC, ATD, and/or DVCC). It also serves as the main system switch, controllable remotely. An integrated pre-charge circuit prevents high inrush currents when connecting capacitive loads such as MultiPlus/Quattro or other inverters, eliminating the need for an external pre-charge circuit. The integrated battery shunt controller provides real-time data such as state of charge (SOC), voltage, current, and history, similar to other Victron Energy battery controllers.
Advanced communication and connectivity
Monitoring and control of the Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8) is performed via the VictronConnect app via Bluetooth or a GX device (such as a Cerbo GX) and the VRM portal for remote supervision. Its VE.Can compatibility allows easy connection (standard RJ45 network cable) to a GX device. The CAN-bus protocol, based on NMEA 2000, ensures easy integration into marine networks, enabling transmission of BMS data to marine multifunction displays (MFD) via a VE.Can to NMEA 2000 micro-C male cable. The DVCC (Distributed Voltage and Current Control) function enables automatic control of compatible Victron inverters/chargers and solar chargers via a connected GX device. ATC/ATD contacts are also available to control third-party chargers and loads with a remote on/off port.
Additional features for optimal management
The Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8) offers a programmable relay that can be configured as an alarm relay (with pre-alarm) or to control an alternator via its external regulator. An AUX terminal provides auxiliary power (1.1 A at system voltage) for specific loads, such as a GX device, even after the BMS has shut off loads due to low cell voltage. It also monitors fuses for up to 4 Lynx distributors connected via VictronConnect or a GX device. The Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8) is distinguished by its M8 busbar connection.
