Batteries: Choosing the right technology

Choosing the right battery is a fundamental step in designing your electrical system. Several technologies are available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of capacity, lifespan, weight, and cost. Understanding the specifics of each technology will allow you to make the best choice for your needs.

  • Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries: Offer high energy density, long lifespan, and deep discharge capability. Require a Battery Management System (BMS) for optimal management.
  • AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries: Maintenance-free, resistant to vibration and moderate deep discharge. A proven solution for versatile use.
  • Gel batteries: Similar to AGM batteries, but with better resistance to extreme temperatures and a potentially longer lifespan.
  • Open lead-acid batteries: The oldest technology, requiring regular maintenance (water top-up). Less expensive, but less efficient in terms of lifespan and deep discharge.

Chargers: Optimize the lifespan of your batteries
