Designed for Victron Energy Lithium Battery Smart batteries, the smallBMS V2 is an all-in-one battery management system (BMS). It supports series, parallel, and series/parallel configurations for 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V systems, with a maximum capacity of 20 batteries. This allows energy storage capacities up to 84 kWh at 12 V and up to 102 kWh at 24 V or 48 V. This BMS provides essential protection against cell undervoltage and overvoltage, as well as extreme temperatures.
Features and integration of the smallBMS V2
The smallBMS V2 includes several outputs for precise management of your installation. The load disconnect output controls remote on/off inputs of equipment such as BatteryProtect, inverters, and DC-DC converters, with a maximum output current of 1 A. A pre-alarm output provides a visual or audible warning in case of low battery voltage, triggering at least 30 seconds before the load disconnect output is deactivated.
The charge disconnect output manages remote on/off ports of chargers, such as the Smart Charger IP43, Cyrix-Li-Charge relays, or Cyrix-Li-ct combiners. This output, limited to 10 mA, is not suitable for inductive loads. The remote on/off terminal allows simultaneous control of the load disconnect and charge disconnect outputs. Two LED indicators provide system status: a blue LED for active load disconnect output and a red LED for inactive charge disconnect output due to temperature or cell voltage.
Positioning and technical specifications
The smallBMS V2 is positioned as a simple and economical alternative to Victron Energy’s VE.Bus BMS. It is distinguished by the absence of a VE.Bus interface, making it incompatible with MultiPlus and Quattro VE.Bus chargers/inverters. It operates optimally at voltages from 8 to 70 VDC with a current consumption of 2.2 mA in active mode (excluding output currents). Its compact dimensions of 106 x 42 x 23 mm and weight of 0.1 kg facilitate integration. It features IP20 protection and complies with EN 60950 safety standards and EN 61000 emission/immunity standards.
