The Victron Smart BatteryProtect 48V-100A is an advanced battery protection device, ideal for a wide range of energy systems, including marine applications. It disconnects non-essential loads before the battery is fully discharged, preserving its lifespan and ensuring sufficient power for critical functions. This unidirectional protector handles a maximum continuous current of 100A and a peak current of 250A for 30 seconds, operating on a 48V system voltage.
Advanced Protection and Safety
The Smart BatteryProtect includes overvoltage protection, disconnecting the load if the DC voltage exceeds 64V to safeguard sensitive equipment. Its "ignition proof" design uses MOSFET switches instead of relays, eliminating spark risks. Current draw is ultra-low, at 1.9mA in operation (Bluetooth enabled) and 1.7mA in standby (Bluetooth enabled) or 1.6mA in standby (Bluetooth disabled), which is particularly relevant for systems using Li-ion batteries after a low-voltage cutoff.
Smart Features and System Integration
The Smart version offers Bluetooth programming via the VictronConnect app, allowing easy configuration of engagement and disengagement levels, among other parameters. For lithium battery systems, a specific setup enables external control by a BMS (Battery Management System) such as the VE.Bus BMS or Lynx Smart BMS. The device can also serve as a remote on/off switch for the entire system. It features a timed alarm output that activates after 12 seconds if the battery voltage drops below the preset disconnection level, preventing false alarms from engine startups. The disconnection and reconnection delays for loads allow time to react to voltage fluctuations before a cutoff occurs.
Operating Modes and Diagnostics
The Smart BatteryProtect offers multiple operating modes: Buzzer or LED (default), Relay mode, and Li-ion mode. The VictronConnect app enables real-time monitoring of key values, warnings, alarms, and errors, facilitating diagnostics without requiring a constant paired connection. An alternative programming method is also available via the PROG pin to the GND pin.
