The Victron Energy VE.Can communication interface is designed for the integration and advanced management of marine energy systems. It enables the connection and synchronization of multiple devices within a unified network, facilitating supervision and performance optimization.
System integration and synchronization
The VE.Can protocol allows up to 25 units to be connected, such as SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controllers, for precise synchronization. This networking capability ensures coordinated battery charging management, which is particularly advantageous for large-scale solar installations where multiple controllers operate in parallel. Unlike solutions limited to a few devices via Bluetooth (up to 10 units for SmartSolar models), VE.Can offers superior scalability for complex systems.
Advanced connectivity and monitoring
With VE.Can ports, devices can be connected to a Color Control GX or other GX products, as well as to a PC, for wired data transmission. This wired connectivity ensures higher reliability compared to wireless links in potentially disrupted environments. Remote monitoring is possible via the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal when the system is connected to a GX device with internet access, providing full access to real-time and historical solar controller data. Information such as PV voltage and current, battery voltage, current, and temperature is stored for 46 days, enabling in-depth system performance analysis.
SmartSolar MPPT charge controller features compatible with VE.Can
SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controllers featuring the VE.Can interface utilize ultra-fast MPPT technology that maximizes energy harvesting, even in cloudy conditions or partial shading. They achieve conversion efficiencies exceeding 98% without cooling fans. These controllers are compatible with 12V, 24V, 36V, and 48V battery systems (automatic or manual 36V selection) and can handle PV open-circuit voltages up to 150V. They include extensive electronic protection against overheating, PV short circuits, PV reverse polarity, and PV reverse current, as well as a fully programmable flexible charging algorithm with eight presets. The fully discharged battery recovery function can initiate charging even if the battery has reached zero volts or reconnect a discharged Li-ion battery with built-in disconnect function. A programmable relay and remote on/off function complete the capabilities of these controllers.
