Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy VE.Can is a robust communication protocol based on the CAN bus standard, essential for data exchange and advanced control within Victron energy systems. Designed for complex installations, it enables reliable and fast interconnection between various compatible devices, offering centralized management and optimized performance of the entire system. Its ability to manage multi-controller architectures distinguishes it from VE.Direct solutions, which are better suited to single-device or smaller-scale configurations.
Advanced integration and synchronization
The VE.Can protocol facilitates the synchronization of charging stages (bulk, absorption, float) for up to 25 compatible charge controllers, such as the SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 to 150/100 VE.Can ranges. This feature ensures efficient coordination of battery recharging, preventing imbalances and maximizing solar energy production. For physical connectivity, VE.Can uses standard RJ45 cables for daisy-chaining, simplifying wiring and system expansion. VE.Can ports support data rates of 250 kb/s, ensuring smooth and responsive communication. Some specific CAN-bus systems, such as BMS-CAN, may operate at 500 kb/s.
Extended monitoring and control
Thanks to VE.Can integration, each compatible controller can be individually monitored via a Victron GX device (such as the Color Control GX) and the VRM portal (Victron Remote Management). The protocol also allows seamless integration of VE.Direct devices via a dedicated interface, consolidating data from the entire system. Compatibility with smart batteries (CAN-bus) and ESS (Energy Storage Systems) extends control and management capabilities. The VE.Can protocol is designed for increased robustness against electronic interference, enhancing system reliability in marine environments.
