The Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 VE.Can solar charge controller is designed to optimize energy harvesting in marine photovoltaic systems. It features an ultra-fast maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm, improving energy production by up to 30% compared to PWM controllers and 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers, particularly under cloudy skies or partial shading conditions thanks to its advanced power point detection. With a maximum conversion efficiency exceeding 98%, this controller operates without a cooling fan.
Connectivity and System Integration
Equipped with VE.Can and Bluetooth Smart interfaces, the SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 VE.Can enables flexible management of the installation. The VE.Can protocol supports synchronization of up to 25 units for large-scale systems, and a wired connection to GX devices such as the Color Control GX for centralized monitoring and control. The Bluetooth Smart connectivity provides a wireless solution for configuration, monitoring, updates, and synchronization of up to 10 controllers, including via the VictronConnect app. The controller can also integrate external battery voltage and temperature data via Bluetooth, from a Smart Battery Sense, BMV-712 Smart, or SmartShunt.
Features and Protections
This model features a fully programmable charging algorithm with eight presets selectable via a rotary switch, as well as a fully discharged battery recovery function. It includes extensive electronic protections against overheating (with power reduction), PV short circuits, PV polarity reversal, and PV reverse current. A programmable relay and remote on/off function are also available, enabling deep integration into complex systems such as those managed by a VE.BUS BMS. The SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 VE.Can is part of the SmartSolar range alongside the 150/85 and 150/100 VE.Can models, offering a nominal charge current of 70A for auto-selectable 12/24/48V battery voltage and a nominal PV power of up to 4000W at 48V, making it suitable for medium to large solar installations. Its PV terminals are compatible with cables up to 35 mm² / AWG2 (Tr models) and support a maximum PV voltage of 150V.
